The Doorway Gallery is delighted to host an exhibition by Roisin O’Farrell titled Silver | Paper |Gold

On Thursday, September 6th between 6-7.30pm on 24 South Frederick Street.

This new series of work continues Róisín’s reflection on the idea of home as a complex layer of comfort and chaos, strength and fragility, messy relationships and unconditional belonging. This new work offers a break from her usual exclusive use of oils as a media and allowed her to explore other textures such as acrylic, metallic and papers, as well as oils.

The silver vintage cutlery, old and traditional belong in a velvet lined box or on a mahogany table with starched linen but here they are presented within the untidiness and the mess of life. Strong, bold and beautiful, they speak of the structure of an inter-generational family.

The paper is expensive, for the 'good room'. It papers over the story of life underneath. The good and the bad, the hurt and the joy. The paper is the side we show to the mother we meet in the supermarket with the perfect life. In this work the paper is torn and unapologetically allows the story behind to emerge.

The gold can be found in the depth of the ground (background). It can't be easily seen. It must be looked for. It’s the vein of wholeness. It’s the unexpected resilience. It’s a new horizon within.

The new series will be accompanied in this show by a selection of new works in oils that continue the themes of old world interiors and the familiar welly boot family portraits. This will be Roisin’s fifth solo show with The Doorway Gallery.

‘I would spread the word about Róisín’s new amazing multimedia work but would rather keep her all to myself’

Mairead Ronan, RTE & BBC TV and Radio presenter

“Beautiful, detailed, powerful and decidedly female” Barbara Muir, Artist and Writer
