I was fortunate to get a weather window to land on Skellig Michael in summer 2020. The sea was rough and my poor fellow travellers were heaving over the side shortly after we left port. I had taken a pre-emptive seasickness tablet and gave the remainder of the pack to the others for the return journey. The experience was other-worldly and as is often the case in such grand environments I failed to make a decent painting on the rock itself. I couldn't do any justice to its grandeur and this coupled with the large amount of tourists and limited areas to access meant that I just couldn't relax or find a composition. The journey around the back of the Large Skellig and back past the little Skelling gave me much more material that I was able to work with and presented this view which I was able to work up back in the studio. 26. Seastack (Irelands Eye) A good friend of mine brought me out one evening around Irelands Eye in the kayaks. I had never been out and couldn't believe how the experience of seeing it from the mainland was so different to the experience of seeing it close up with seals swimming all around and under the boats. Parts of it feel truly wild and this huge stack towering about us covered in bird guano offered a fantastic composition and the deep reflections that you see only when you are sitting right down in the water.
