Unfortunately it wasn't possible to get out to Scarriff or Deenish islands off the coast of Kerry near Caherdaniel. There is an old house on one of them but without a pier to land at coupled with frequently rough seas it would have been very difficult to land. It just illustrates how lonely an existence it must have been for the people farming the land there. As it turns out I think that the painting that came about here with the view from Lamb's head across probably worked a lot better and also gives a little of the sense of loneliness and longing that must have accompanied daily life out there. I was particularly happy that I managed to get a sense of the particular light one frequently gets out on the west coast where clouds track in constantly from the Atlantic giving conditions that are overcast but still give a lot of colour to the landscape.
