Hugh Frazer ‘The Abstracted City’ back

He works from what are often unusual perspectives – for instance, several of the paintings originate from time spent exploring the city from the upper levels of multi-story car parks.   The works possess an intrigue through this vulnerable and idiosyncratic response, where creativity and character can flourish from this emotive exploration of responding to his surroundings.

Hugh Frazer has exhibited frequently in major exhibitions in Ireland: including the Royal Ulster Academy (1985), the Royal Hibernian Academy (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2007, 2012), Oireachtas Exhibition (1996), Iontas National Small Works Exhibition (1994, 1995, 1998), CEER NCAD (1989-2001 – winner of painting prize 1997 and 2001).  From 2001 to 2006 he lived and worked in Belgium where he held two solo exhibitions (in the Chapitre XII Gallery in Brussels in 2007 and in the headquarters of the European Commission’s Directorate for Education and Culture in 2009).
