  • This was done during the end of the project and I was trying to tie in the whole concept of the exhibition around the broader idea of the island as an isolated entity or a fortress. This view just by Rosbeg in Donegal brought together 3 different types of 'island' environment from a simple rock in the sea, to an islet and a seastack. There was also an island just out of view that didn't really work within the composition.
Of course the scene was also absolutely stunning with Glencolumbkille stretching out to the horizon covered in the haze of early morning heat. The place seemed utterly unspoiled by human activity.
Apparently the difference between them all is that a 'rock' has no water source, an 'islet' has vegetation but cannot support human habitation and an island has a fresh water source and can support habitation.
