This large plein air work was painted rom the open door of my Camper van over several dark winter mornings in December 2019 just prior to the COVID pandemic. I think of it as a real lesson for myself in plein-air painting and what the eye and mind can 'read' from a real place as opposed to a photographic reproduction. I can still feel the damp, dark cold morning and the sense of heaviness that the dominant cliffs cast over the scene. Plein air painting is about giving visual form to ALL the senses not just the optical.
