Kantian philosophy touches on the ancient understandings of what is temporal, and what is permanent. Phenomenal illumination which can be seen contrasts to the noumenal light which cannot be seen. Likewise too a shadow can be perceived but universal stillness cannot, all this reflected in the ying-yang, with the two 'darknesses' and the two 'lights', each reflecting the universiality of one to one.
