Inspired by the story of Deirdre of Sorrows. In order to prevent the tragic prophesy that Deirdre’s beauty would be the cause of wars and a downfall of three great heroes, she lived hidden away with her foster mother.
However fate caught up with her. The painting captures Deirdre daydreaming, being closely watched by her old foster mother. Her pale skin radiates exposed to strong sunshine to accentuate her imminent exposure to the world outside.
