Gadge Roberts

"My work can be taken at face - value with the option for the viewer to scratch the surface and explore the work on a deeper level. The paintings serve as vignettes that tell a story about a character or a moment in time. Often the character is presented in a way or interacting with an object which further tells the story."

Gadge left behind his job working in textiles for T.V., film and stage to move to The Hague, The Netherlands. He rented a studio and took painting lessons from Dutch portrait artist Ed Van De Kooy.
While living in The Hague, Gadge would go to the Mauritshuis (which houses 'The girl with the pearl earring') and study the paint close up, trying to figure out what colours they had used and trying to isolate every brush stroke.

Gadge's style has been described as 'A Pop art format meets classical and formal techniques' or 'Magic realism'.

He now lives and works in London as a full time artist.
